On January 1st, 2022, I started my tenure as Chair of the NY chapter of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists (NYSCC). Education has always been my passion. My mother, a history high school teacher, and my father, a physician and university professor, taught me the importance and value of education and knowledge.

I became a scientist because of curiosity and exploration of the unknown. Science has been my driver for the last 35 years after I graduated with a PhD in cell biology. As chair of the NYSCC, I planned my vision around advancing cosmetic science, and I designed a very scientific-oriented 2022 event program to educate our members on the latest innovations. But there is another topic that I am also passionate about. It has been a natural extension of my interest in natural ingredients. By meeting with natural ingredients suppliers and farmers, I realized that there was a need for sustainable sourcing as well as social equity. We cannot only be focused on the science of the ingredients without considering the impact of their sourcing both on the environment and on society.

My program in 2022 wants to focus on science but also on sustainability. Both themes are of particular interest to the personal care industry, and I will take a deep dive into them. I am proud to be involved in initiatives targeting education and equal opportunities and I am planning to increase the awareness of social diversity and inclusions with a series of initiatives. Stay tuned for what is coming! I look forward to sharing it with you.
