February is a time when we can reflect on our loved ones and what is important to us in life. But it is also a time to think about others in their time of need and spread some happiness and love to them as well. Love encompasses a wide range of emotions, and it is important to note all the different aspects of love as we go through the month of February.
As Scottish Poet Alexander Smith wrote:
“Love is but the discovery of ourselves in others, and the delight in the recognition.”
Seeing myself in the students at Ecole Mere Louise (EML) was the driving force behind founding Itiah Angels for Learning (IAFL). I remember the scarcity of basic primary needs that at times made it hard for me to focus on learning. However, there must have been some unknown “angels” during my time at the school who provided support so that I could stay in school. As a result, I was able to establish a good academic foundation in my younger years, and it led me to pursue advanced studies in the US and build a fantastic career in the Cosmetic Industry.
IAFL ensures that the good deeds of those “angels,” don’t go unnoticed, especially in a region that is the most impoverished in the world, the beautiful island of Haiti. Our amazing volunteers and community supporters also have realized that we are all one, and collectively aspire to be happy during our time on earth. Together, we delight in volunteering, donating, and sponsoring the younger generation.
In this month as we are celebrating love, IAFL aims to renew its dedication to helping make a difference and we encourage you to join this movement. This is a heartfelt invitation for you to discover yourself in helping others. No matter the size or type of your contribution (big or small), you will make a difference!
I also wish you all a Happy Black History Month, dedicated to acknowledging and recognizing the many contributions of African Americans. Speaking of love, it is also American Heart Month, please take the time to keep your heart healthy, it is vital for loving one another and doing good deeds.
