As we eagerly await the much-anticipated American Super Bowl scheduled for Sunday, February 11, 2024 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, fans everywhere are gearing up for this national celebration. In this context, we would like to shed light on the national sports pastime in Haiti.
The Haitian National Football Team holds a significant place in international football. Haiti has been a member of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) since 1934, the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) since 1961, and the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) since 1978. Haiti’s football stadium, named Stade Sylvio Cator after Sylvio Cator, was inaugurated in 1953 for football games and the Olympics. This stadium, located in Port-au-Prince, serves as the capital of Haiti.
The uniform of the Haitian National Football Team proudly displays the two colors, red and blue, representing the national flag of Haiti. As the home team, Haiti dons a blue shirt, red shorts, and blue socks, while as the away team, they opt for a red shirt, blue shorts, and red socks. Additionally, Haiti introduces a third color, white, and adorns the team’s crest of the Federation on both the shirt and shorts. This distinctive uniform reflects the pride and identity of the Haitian football team.
As our Super Bowl approaches, let’s take a moment to appreciate and celebrate the rich sporting culture that extends beyond borders, encompassing the passion and dedication of teams like the Haitian National Football Team.
