I am incredibly thankful for education. I value the fact that I’ve been given the opportunity to learn about the world around me and to understand it, or at least part of it. It’s impossible to become more than what you already know–so learning is as educational as it is a growing process. I try my best to put myself against what I might haven’t experienced, like a genre of music or a type of book. My ultimate goal in life is to just understand what I don’t.
I think this thankfulness for education really stems from how my parents raised me, particularly my father. He didn’t come from an incredibly affluent family and grew up in rural India. He would tell me all about how he had to work ten times harder than the next person, purely because of his economic status. Eventually, he made enough money to move to America and raise a family, and was sure to settle into a house as close to the best school district.
As inspiring as that story is, it really made me thankful for every moment I have in the classroom. Every book we read, every fun fact I learn, I know it all came from my father’s hard work. I hope to provide this same education to people like my father, who might not have had the best opportunities, but are still craving the same knowledge I do.
