We are incredibly grateful for the diverse volunteers who join our organization, dedicating their time and talent to help combat poverty through our mission of supporting young students at an elementary school in Haiti. From day one, our nonprofit has welcomed high school and university students nationwide who need community service hours, want to practice their skills, build their resume, and aspire to gain recognition through scholarships and special awards. Thanks to our remote structure, anyone with a compassionate heart can contribute from anywhere.
We raise awareness for our organization through word of mouth, various exhibitions, and our presence on Handshake. So, what is Handshake?
Handshake is a widely-used career services platform that connects university students and recent graduates with volunteer opportunities, and internships. It provides a centralized space where organizations can post relevant listings tailored to students, making it easier for them to find opportunities that align with their career interests.
It starts with students creating a profile on Handshake and receiving personalized recommendations based on their major, skills, and aspirations, allowing them to focus on opportunities that match their backgrounds. Additionally, students can message Itiah Angels for Learning directly via Handshake expressing their interest in our organization and initiatives. Once we receive and review their resume to determine their expertise, we then invite the applicants to join our biweekly committee meeting held virtually on Wednesdays at 6:15 PM Eastern Time. During the committee meeting, applicants introduce themselves, connect with other volunteers, and specify the department and role they wish to serve in.
If the applicants demonstrate an alignment to the organization, they are then provided their onboarding documents to begin their term with our organization. It is a very simple process. THis platform has proven to be highly beneficial to both our organizations and those students who wish to gain new experiences through service.
