A mother’s love is unparalleled, as depicted in volunteer SongShi Liang’s illustration. Mothers consistently aspire for their children to surpass their own achievements in life. Yet, mothers with scarce resources confront substantial obstacles in fostering their children’s success. Consider a mother in Haiti and the sacrifices she must endure to change the course of her children’s lives. Women needn’t accomplish grand feats to make a significant contribution to the world. Despite facing limitations, Haitian women contribute significantly to their families and their efforts deserve to be celebrated.
In the illustration, the woman on the left diligently washes clothes by the riverside, symbolizing her dedication to supporting her family, often spending the entire day at this task due to large family sizes who rely on her. In the middle, a grandmother distributes food to hungry students at a school. Her volunteerism stems from a desire to alleviate student hunger amidst the school’s financial and staffing challenges. On the right, an educated woman works as a teacher, driven by a passion to provide students with opportunities for education, recognizing the shortage of qualified educators in some schools.
While many Haitian women face adversity, their impactful contributions warrant recognition and celebration. Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers around the world marching to the rhythm of resilience and perseverance.
