On June 17th, Itiah Angels for Learning received a friendly reminder that National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) of Mercer County would be collecting diapers and feminine hygiene products on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 1 p.m. at the Lawrenceville Library. The National Council of Negro Women’s mission is to lead, develop and advocate for women of African descent. Founded in 1935 by a group of women leaders who saw the need to unite and open doors for young women.
The Itiah Angels for Learning team of volunteers, led by our dedicated Executive Secretary Mrs. Magnolia McGlothen-Brown, a former educator in the Trenton School district immediately sprang into action. Our goal, to make a difference in our local community. Mrs. Brown promptly reached out to her network, and before long, we had a car full of diapers for every size and wipes of different types ready to be delivered.
On behalf of the NCNW, these essential supplies for babies were taken to the HomeFront facility at 1880 Princeton Avenue in Lawrenceville, NJ. Supporting HomeFront, whose mission is to help families break the cycle of poverty, is an endeavor we were thrilled to participate in.
More importantly, our volunteers were excited to support the effort of the Rev. Dr. Angela M. Battle Senior Pastor of St. Paul AME Church in Kenilworth. Rv. Dr Battle is also the Author of “Man Cover” A cry for federal intervention and has served as a previous President of the National Council of Negro Woman (NCNW) Mercer County Section.
This collective effort is a testament to the power of community and the impact we can make when we come together for a cause. Thanks to all our volunteers and especially Mrs. Brown. Together, we will seize opportunities such as this to work hand in hand with leaders of our local communities to make positive changes in the lives of those who need it most.
