The story behind the illustration in Volunteer SongShi Liang’s own words-
Three Haitian girls stand in front of the wall. We can see the wood, and the wall. The wall is not completed. The building is developing. In other words, it represents the girls who are growing because they are receiving an education. The background yellow tone, sky and the sun represent Haitian students will have a better future from an education, which will lead to a better future and life. The school supplies symbolize that Haitian students need resources for learning. The yellow hibiscus around the girls represent Haitian students who are Haiti’s future. For the background, I paint the blue sky, and the sun behind the girls. For most background color tones, I use yellow tones. I think yellow can represent hope, the future, and a warm feeling.
