Cultivating an enriching lifestyle of volunteering involves a combination of mindset, planning, and ongoing commitment. Our founder, Marie Thadal has spent many years volunteering with the Society of Cosmetic Chemists in various capacities before registering a non-profit organization to support girls’ education in Haiti. Here are some steps to help you build and sustain a fulfilling volunteering lifestyle:

A. Identify Your Passion and Skills:
1. Consider what causes or issues you are most passionate about. We believe everyone should be passionate about educating our youth. Children are our future leaders. Whether they are near or far, they need our support.
2. Assess your skills and talents to determine how you can contribute effectively. Each one of us possesses unique skills and talents that can help others.

B. Set Clear Goals:
1. Define your volunteering goals. What do you hope to achieve personally and for your selected community?
2. Set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals to ensure you are achieving your goals.

C. Research Opportunities:
1. Explore local and online volunteering opportunities. At Itiah Angels for Learning, you can work remotely. We meet Wednesday evenings bi-monthly at 6:15pm EST on Meet to discuss our projects and successes.
2. Visit https://itiahangels.org/join-our-team-form/r to learn about our mission. You will see that you can design your own position.

D. Start Small:
1. Begin with a manageable commitment. Overcommitting initially can lead to burnout. The first 6 weeks of joining our charity, you will be considered in training. This gives you a chance to learn about our organization’s structure, how we work and get familiar with the other volunteers.
2. If you choose a cause or organization that aligns with your values and interests. You will not feel that you are working.

E. Create a Schedule:
1. Set aside dedicated time for volunteering in your weekly or monthly schedule.
2. Treat volunteering as you would any other important commitment.

F. Build Relationships:
1. Connect with other volunteers and build a sense of community.
2. Foster relationships with the people you’re helping and those you’re volunteering alongside.

G. Adapt and Learn:
1. Be open to trying new roles and tasks within your chosen organization.
2. Continuously seek opportunities for personal and professional growth through. volunteering.

H. Reflect on Your Experience:
1. Regularly reflect on your volunteering experiences and the impact you’re making.
2. Consider how your skills and knowledge have grown, and how you’ve contributed to positive change.

I. Share Your Experience:
1. Inspire others by sharing your volunteering experiences through social media, blogs, or conversations.
2. Encourage friends and family to join you or find their own volunteering opportunities.

J. Balance and Self-Care:
1. Maintain a healthy balance between your personal, professional, and volunteer commitments.
2. Practice self-care to prevent burnout. Taking care of yourself enables you to be more effective in your volunteering efforts.

K. Celebrate Milestones:
1. Acknowledge and celebrate your achievements and milestones as a volunteer.
2. Recognize the positive impact you’ve had on others and the community.

L. Stay Informed:
1. Stay updated on the issues related to your chosen cause or organization.
2. Attend workshops, webinars, training sessions and our bi-monthly virtual meetings to enhance your knowledge and skills.

Remember, the key to cultivating an enriching lifestyle of volunteering is to find a balance that works for you and aligns with your passions and values. Regularly reassess your goals and commitments to ensure that your volunteer efforts continue to be meaningful and sustainable over the long term.
